Desmond "Etika" Amofah
May 12, 1990 - June 19, 2019

On June 19th, 2019 I lost one of my closest friends who was like a brother to me, Desmond "Etika" Amofah.

I met Etika for the first time at EVO 2017 because he was hanging out with my good friend, Gian (GCPM11) who's wedding is pictured above. Within the first few minutes of meeting him, Etika brought me under his wing, took me in and treated me like family. Etika’s personality and energy was so infectious, everyone always gravitated toward him and he was just a stand up incredible guy. He was the same guy on and off camera, so humble and kind, always looking out for everyone.

In his final video/last words, Etika said that he thought everyone would forget about him. I wanted to make and dedicate this page to Etika so that he can always be here, remembered by all, living on through us. He meant a lot to me and we had some crazy fun times and memories. I'm including a photo album below to showcase some of these memories such as when Etika finally learned about a huge plot-twist in Attack on Titan, fun memes from our EVO 2017 trip, TwitchCon and a few others. In addition to this memorial album, I am also working on some event ideas for the years to come to keep Etika's memory around and to help support suicide prevention. Details will come eventually and would also be posted here. That being said, please enjoy the walk down memory lane as we celebrate the life of this iconic legend and dear friend, Desmond "Etika" Amofah.

Etika changed YouTube forever. He led the #JoyConBoyz - an incredible and insanely loyal fan base spanning all across the world. He brought an experience to the Nintendo Directs with his reaction videos and to new Smash characters that no one else could ever match. He brought life and elevated the Nintendo and gaming community at large. He lit up the world. He was a bright and remarkable guy. It's that simple.

On June 19th, 2019, the struggles of YouTube finally got to Etika. The world lost a beautiful soul as he went missing for a few days and was later found at the base of the Manhattan Bridge, having taken his life. This was a really tough time for me because I had to deal with the whole thing while on a trip on the other side of the world but I’m very thankful that I had friends around to help me get through it.

Etika, I miss you bro. I'm always thinking of you. I hope that my journey through life and my work and content at large will make you proud. I’ll miss you bro. Thanks for all the incredible memories over the years. The Wild Turkey will always exclusively be for you 🔥🦃🔥 Hope you’re having fun up there and watching over us 🙏🏻
